The first hat bands were introduced in about the 1930s. The photograph below shows Una Watson, who was at the School from 1928 (Preparatory School) until UV in July 1939. She is wearing a straw hat, which resembles the sailor style that would have been popular then. This type of hat was worn until about 2014 when it was replaced with a thermal reversible green and red hat. The photo below is Joyce Magor from 1944 – she has the same type of hat.
